Lakshya Sen reunites with Korean coach Yoo Yong-sung ahead of Paris Olympics 2024
With the Paris Olympics 2024 fever catching up, Indian ace shuttler Lakshya Sen is all set to reunite with Yoo Yong-sung, the Korean coach who had a brief spell with the Indian young shuttler way back in 2022.
Yoo Yong-sung and Lakshya Sen are expected to travel to Marseille for a training camp at the Halles des Sports Parsemain. Yoo would be particularly concentrating on the multi-feed sessions in order to help prepare Sen for the Paris Olympics 2024.
“It’s nice to be back with Lakshya. I’m going to be with him for a month or so for now,” Yoo Yong-sung told Hindustan Times.
“It’s hard to go straight into attack after a dive” - Lakshya Sen
Sen has the Canada Open in early July before he travels to Paris for the Summer Games. While his attack has been impressive to note, variations in his attack still need some work as the Indian shuttler is keen to work on his technique.
“At times when I’m hitting hard, my opponents are already anticipating it and waiting in the back court. I need to bring in sharp drops, change it up a bit and keep them guessing,” Lakshya told Hindustan Times.
Furthermore, Lakshya Sen insisted on cutting down his signature reflexive sideways dive, as it may leave him unbalanced and give him less time to prepare for the next shot.
“It’s hard to go straight into attack after a dive. It’s like I’m always playing catch up. So yeah, I don’t want to do it much. When I dive, I can be late for the next shot,” he added.
With no one currently in red-hot form, Sen feels the upcoming mega event in Paris would be an open contest in the men’s singles.
Viktor Axelsen, the defending Olympic champion, could win only one world tour title in 2024 and he is not in convincing form in the run-up to the Summer Games. Furthermore, he lost his World No.1 spot after 132 weeks.
Though Sen suffered a loss to Axelsen in three games at the Singapore Open earlier in June, the Indian shuttler gave the Dane a bit of a scare with his exceptional gameplay
