“Making the nation proud” - Cricketing fraternity congratulates Swapnil Kusale for winning India’s third bronze medal at Paris Olympics 2024
Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale made the nation proud by winning a bronze medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday, August 1. Kusale’s medal was India’s first-ever medal in the 50m 3p event at an Olympic Games, as well as the country’s third bronze medal so far at the ongoing Paris Games.
After his landmark victory, several eminent cricketers took to social media to congratulate 28-year-old Kusale.
“Hats off to Swapnil Kusale for clinching India's 3rd bronze medal in the 50m rifle shooting competition! 🥉❤️ Making the nation proud!” wrote Indian cricket team’s star pacer Mohammed Shami.
Former Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik took to the social media platform X to write:
“Congrats Swapnil, 3 and counting. Go Team India 🇮🇳🥉”
“What a phenomenal comeback to clinch the Bronze!! Big congratulations Swapnil Kusale. You have made India proud!!” Robin Uthappa posted.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who was recently appointed the head coach of the men's national team, wrote:

Swapnil Kusale’s bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics 50m 3p rifle shooting event was no mean feat. The participants in this event have to shoot 15 times in three positions – kneeling, prone, and standing.
Kusale managed to secure the third position by scoring 156.8 points in the prone and 153.3 points in the kneeling positions. He finally scored 195 points in the standing position to secure a place on the podium behind China’s Liu Yukun and Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to congratulate the Maharashtra-native on his win, writing:
“Exceptional performance by Swapnil Kusale! Congrats to him for winning the Bronze medal in the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions at the #ParisOlympics2024. His performance is special because he’s shown great resilience and skills. He is also the first Indian athlete to win a medal in this category. Every Indian is filled with happiness.“
India had previously won two bronze medals in the Paris 2024 Olympics. Manu Bhaker secured the first medal in the women's 10m air pistol event, and Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the second medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
