Manu Bhaker bags bronze in women's 10m air pistol to give India first medal at Paris Olympics 2024
Manu Bhaker created history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by becoming the first Indian female shooter to secure a medal at the Olympics. She won the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, which is also India’s first medal at the Paris Olympics.
Bhaker finished third in the final event with a total score of 221.7. In her final shot, Manu scored a 10.1, moving her back to the second position momentarily. She finished off with a 10.3, securing the third place on the podium.
The South Korean duo of Oh Ye Jin and Kim Ye-ji claimed the top two spots, respectively. The gold medal in the event was secured by Oh Ye Jin, who set a new Olympic record with a remarkable score of 243.2. Her compatriot, Kim Ye-ji, took the silver with a score of 241.3.
This bronze medal marks India’s fifth medal in shooting at the Olympics and the first by a female shooter. Previous Indian medalists in shooting include Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Men’s double trap, Silver, Athens 2004), Abhinav Bindra (Men’s 10m air rifle, Gold, Beijing 2008), Gagan Narang (Men’s 10m air rifle, Bronze, London 2012), and Vijay Kumar (Men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, Silver, London 2012).
After a heartbreak at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Manu Bhaker has made a comeback and just in the perfect fashion to shut up her critics and wave the national flag at the world’s grandest sporting stage.
