Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh clinch bronze medal in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team; second medal for India at Paris Olympics 2024
Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the bronze medal for India in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics 2024. On Tuesday, July 30, the Indian duo won after beating the South Korean pair of Jin Ye Oh and Wonho Lee 16-10 in the bronze-medal match.
India did not have the best of starts after South Korea won the opening round with a score of 20.50. But instead of going into their shell, Manu and Sarabjot stormed back to win the second round by scoring 19.9, putting South Korea under pressure.
India kept turning the screws by extending their lead to 4-2, taking the next two rounds with scores of 20.8 and 20.7. Once they took the lead, India never went on the back foot. Overall, they won eight out of the 13 rounds.
Korea won the 11th and 12th rounds by margins of 0.50 and 0.20, but it was only to delay the inevitable before India finished on the winning side.
Manu Bhaker’s historic feat
India have won two medals in Paris Olympics 2024 and Manu has been a part of both. After bagging bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, she came up trumps in the mixed team event as well. Manu also became the second Indian and the first female athlete from her country to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics.
Norman Pritchard was the first to achieve the landmark after he won two silver medals in the Paris Olympic Games back in 1990. Manu also became the second Indian female athlete after badminton player PV Sindhu to win multiple Olympic medals.
After pulling off victories in the 10m Air Pistol events, Manu will be looking for a third medal when she participates in the women’s 25m pistol event. Last year, she booked her ticket to Paris during the Asian Championships and from there, she has not looked back.
