"Medal is bronze but look is pure gold" - Anand Mahindra on Manu Bhaker's bronze medal win; Sachin Tendulkar joins in as wishes pour in for shooter
Indian businessman and the chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, joined in to send his wishes to the Paris Olympics 2024 bronze medallist Indian shooter Manu Bhaker. Notably, Manu secured the medal in the women’s 10m air pistol final on Sunday, July 28.
Mahindra warned the shooter’s opponents, stating not to get in her way. Though she won the bronze medal, her steely-eyed look is pure gold, he added in his post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The medal is Bronze… But that look is Pure GOLD. Steely-eyed determination that made her the first Indian Woman to win a shooting medal in the Olympics. Don’t ever try to get in her way,” posted Anand Mahindra on X.
Former Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was also quick to join in, congratulating the Indian shooter Manu Bhaker on securing India’s first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. Tendulkar also stressed Manu’s redemption after her heartbreak in Tokyo 2020.
“Off the mark in the medal tally and on the mark with the shooting! Congratulations, @realmanubhaker , on bagging India's first medal at the Paris Olympics. After overcoming the heartbreak in Tokyo, you have shown immense strength & determination to win a bronze at #Paris2024, and made India proud,” Sachin Tendulkar posted.
Manu Bhaker’s redemption in Paris Olympics 2024
It’s worth noting that Manu Bhaker suffered an exit after her pistol malfunction at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Though she came back after replacing the equipment, she couldn’t concentrate well and failed to make the cut for the finals.
Three years later, she made a perfect comeback to bag a bronze medal, emerging as India’s first female shooter to secure an Olympic medal. Bhaker’s win was celebrated across India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined the queue.
"A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India's FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!" PM Modi posted as people rejoiced by bursting crackers in parts of the country.
