"Mom was busy and said will call back later" - Sarabjot Singh after bronze triumph in Paris Olympics
Along with Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh has now etched his names in history books. Today (July 30), the pair of Bhaker and Singh participated in the mixed team 10m air pistol bronze-medal match against South Korea and emerged victorious to bring home India's second medal from the Paris Olympics.
Notably, Sarabjot Singh also participated in the men's 10m air pistol event but unfortunately couldn't get past the qualification stages as he ended ninth with 577 points. It was a narrow miss as only the top eight candidates are allowed to make it to the final. However, he turned that agony into ecstasy as it was him whose attempt gave India their second bronze medal at the Paris Games.
After the match, he engaged in a conversation with IANS, where he said:
"I tried calling my mother, but she was busy and said will call back later."
He further added about the triumph:
"I had been training for eight years for this. The medal is good for me but I am not satisfied with the game. There were a lot of technical issues I faced. I hope to do better in 2028 Olympics."
This was the 22-year-old Sarabjot Singh's first-ever Olympics campaign and he surely will have some takeaways from the event. Shedding light on his learnings, he said:
"I learnt a lot from this Olympics. Firstly, I learnt how to handle pressure and how to maintain the mentality. There are more things but I can't express them now. I'll go back to the room and sit down and think about them."
Even Manu Bhaker, who won India's first medal at Paris Olympics 2024, praised her partner. She mentioned:
“It’s great. The first medal was really good and again the fight was really tough. It was neck to neck with each shot, like with my first bronze. But the last shot was Sarabjot’s, so big up to him."
India's Day 4 performance at Paris Olympics 2024
There is a lot of action to unfold today. India has already brought home one bronze medal in the form of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh's brilliance. Notably, 12 years ago, in London Olympics, it was Gagan Narang who brought home a bronze medal in 10m air rifle event on the very same day (July 30).
Prithviraj Tondaiman, who participated in the men's trap event, ended the second day of qualification stages, positioned 21st. In five rounds, his total point tally was 118 (22, 25, 21, 25, and 25).
