Neeraj Chopra Army Rank: What is the current rank of the Indian javelin thrower in the Indian Army?

Reigning Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra currently holds the rank of a Subedar in the Indian Army. He was enrolled as a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the rank of Naib Subedar in the Indian Army on August 26, 2016.

He was inducted into the army in 2016 after his exceptional gold medal-winning performances at the Junior World Championships and South Asian Games. He joined one of the Army’s oldest rifle regiments - 4 Rajputana Rifles.

After his impressive performances, winning gold medals in the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018, he was promoted to Subedar in the same year. Later in 2018, he was awarded the Arjuna Award and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2021 for his meritorious service. On January 26, 2022, Neeraj received the Param Vishist Seva Medal for his distinguished service.

In 2021, he was honored with India's highest sporting honour Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. In 2022 Republic Day honors, he was awarded Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor.


Neeraj Chopra is in red-hot form moving to Paris Olympics 2024

Neeraj Chopra initiated the 2024 season at the Doha Diamond League in May, recording a throw of 88.36m to secure the second position. Later, he participated at the National Federation Cup Athletics Meet in India, bagging the gold medal with a throw of 82.27m.

Subsequently, he was expected to compete in the Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics Meet in Czechia. However, he pulled out of the campaign after suffering a niggle in his adductors.

Later, he was back in action at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, securing the gold medal with a throw of 85.97m, marking it as his third appearance of the season, winning two gold medals.

The champion javelin thrower trained in Finland before heading to Germany. Later, he will train at the Gloria Sports Arena in Turkiye until July 28 before traveling to the French capital for Paris 2024.

Neeraj Chopra will aim to defend the title at the Stade de France on August 6 in the men’s javelin throw qualifiers. The final is scheduled to take place on August 8.
