Neeraj Chopra Coach: Who is the Indian javelin thrower's coach for the Paris Olympics 2024?
The Paris Olympics 2024 will see another story unfold for Neeraj Chopra. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold winner will be with his coach, Dr. Klaus Bartonietz. The duo has been together since the Tokyo Olympics. Before Bartonietz, Chopra was under the coaching of Uwe Hohn, who worked with him from 2018 to 2021.
Bartonietz is a biomechanics expert from Germany and was working with Neeraj along with Uwe Hohn. However, after Hohn's departure, Bartonietz took full charge of the athlete. Neeraj won gold medals in both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018 with Uwe Hohn; still, Chopra felt that a change was required in the training methods.
The duo have been together for a long time and have seen many ups and downs. In 2019, Neeraj suffered from an injury that kept him away from the sport for a year. Bartonietz was the one who was with Chopra during those times and was working consistently for the recovery of India's Javelin thrower.
During the pandemic, Chopra's training schedule was disrupted. To make sure that the thrower is in his best shape for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Bartonietz spent the entire lockdown with him. Once the lockdown was over, the duo started their training at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala for the Tokyo Olympics.
The results were visible during the Tokyo Games in 2020, as Neeraj won gold with a throw of 87.58 meters. As the Paris Olympics get closer, the duo are all set to showcase their magic again.
Neeraj Chopra leads the list of medal hopes for India
Without a doubt, Neeraj Chopra is the best hope for India to win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in 2024. Among more than 100 athletes representing India, Chopra leads the list of those getting gold for the country. He is defending his gold medal this year, which he won in Tokyo 2020.
With Chopra, prospects are high for a 21-member shooting contingent as well as men's badminton doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The duo has done incredibly well in recent times and would like to contribute to the country's medal total.
Nikhat Zareen, the two-time boxing world champion, is also on the list of medal contenders. In May, at the Elroda Cup, she was victorious and would like to continue the winning momentum. Lovlina Borgohain, who won a bronze in Tokyo 2020 in boxing, will also eye a medal this year.
