Neeraj Chopra Family: How many members are in Neeraj's family? Know all about parents and siblings
Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra is fresh off an impressive Paris 2024 Olympics campaign. The javelin thrower won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw final on August 8. He will be looking forward to taking a well-deserved break and spending some time with his family.
The 26-year-old hails from Khandra village of Panipat district in Haryana. Neeraj Chopra was born as the eldest among three siblings to Satish Chopra and Saroj Devi. He has two younger sisters, Sangeeta and Sarita. The athlete was born into a family of farmers.
As a young boy, Neeraj Chopra grew up in a joint family of 19 members. It included his three uncles, Surinder, Bhim and Sultan. His uncles have played a significant role in his successful career as an athlete. It was, in fact, his uncle Surinder Chopra, who first took a slightly overweight Neeraj to the local gym.
Both his parents were very supportive of him pursuing a life in sports. His father, Satish, identified his son's talent when he was very young and took him to Panipat's Shivaji Stadium. It was there that Neeraj's life changed completely. He picked up a passion for javelin throw, and there was no looking back.
Apparently, there is an unwritten rule in the Chopra family of not being present at any of Neeraj's major competitions. They avoid it so as not to make the star athlete nervous.
Neeraj Chopra accomplishes a second consecutive Olympic podium finish at Paris Olympics 2024
Neeraj Chopra will be a proud athlete after winning a second consecutive Olympic medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian thrower clinched a silver medal in Paris to follow up on his gold from 2020 Tokyo.
A Khel Ratna awardee, Chopra lived up to the expectations of his supporters. With a throw of 89.45 m in the final, the Indian took the second position. He looked good to defend his gold from Tokyo ahead of the Summer Games but was denied by Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem.
With a throw of 92.97m, Nadeem broke the Olympic world record and clinched the coveted gold in Paris.
