Neeraj Chopra to miss Paris Diamond League ahead of Paris Olympics: Reports
India's golden boy and Tokyo Games gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has decided to not participate in the Paris leg of the Diamond League, as per News18. The meet was scheduled to be held on July 7 in the French capital.
Chopra had earlier withdrawn from the Ostrava Golden Spike after he 'felt' something in his adductor and then came back after a month-long hiatus to win gold at the Paavo Nurmi Games on June 18.
Neeraj Chopra notably is not just one of the best probables but perhaps the best Indian athlete who will be in contention for a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 26-year-old was successful in bagging a medal of the same color in 2021 in Tokyo.
The javelin thrower is currently gearing up for the Paris Olympics 2024 in Saarbrucken, Germany, with his coach Klaus Bartonietz and physio Ishaan Marwaha. After his two-week camp in Germany comes to a close, he will move to Turkey, and train at the Gloria Sports Arena.
Neeraj Chopra has been in good form ahead of the Summer Games
After creating history in the previous edition of the Olympics, Neeraj Chopra has remained cautious in recent times in order to log his best throw at the Paris Olympics. He even said in a media interaction after the Paavo Nurmi Games:
"I will try to stay healthy in the next weeks because then I will throw my best throws."
2024 has so far been a brilliant year for Chopra. After starting the season with a second-place finish at the Doha leg of the Diamond League, the thrower made his way to the Federation Cup held in Bhubaneswar. At the Federation Cup, also known as the National Senior Athletics Championships, Chopra won the gold medal with a 82.27m throw, which is undoubtedly way behind his personal best of 89.94m, which he registered in 2022 at the Stockholm Diamond League.
Not only will Chopra now aim to win a successive gold medal at the Summer Games, but in recent times he has also expressed his desire to outwit his own record and move into the 90m group.
Along with Neeraj Chopra, Kishore Kumar Jena will also participate in the javelin event at Paris Olympics. The Summer Games kick off on July 26.
