Neeraj Chopra lives up to expectations in the qualification round of the Paris Olympics 2024
Neeraj Chopra, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, was expected to qualify for the final of the Olympic Games. A strong contender for a podium finish in Paris, Neeraj reiterated his pedigree during the qualification round. The Khel Ratna awardee came out with all guns blazing.
The 26-year-old did not need more than one attempt to exceed the minimum required distance, that too by a fair margin. While Neeraj was the first to qualify for the final from Group B, Julian Weber, part of Group A, became the first from his group to qualify with an 87.76m throw.
Neeraj Chopra's throw of 89.34m was also his best of the season so far. Interestingly, the throw in the qualifiers exceeded his gold medal-winning throw of 87.58m at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
With his stellar performance, Chopra would have surely raised his odds for a medal finish at the ongoing Summer Games. If he continues the form he has shown, Neeraj will back himself to defend his gold from Tokyo.
