It was an easy task for the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist who made the qualification seem effortless with a season's best throw of 89.34m in his very first throw to secure an automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics 2024 javelin throw final.
At the Paris Olympics 2024, the automatic qualification mark is 84m. Neeraj Chopra comfortably surpassed the automatic qualification mark and was well ahead of that. This throw not only ensured his place in the final but also marked his highest-ever qualification throw.
Chopra's performance in the qualification round was a standout. His previous season-best throw was 88.36 meters, which he exceeded with ease in his initial attempt at the Paris Olympics 2024.
This remarkable throw was just shy of his personal best of 89.94 meters. With such a performance in the qualification round, Neeraj Chopra is highly expected to defend his title and bring home another gold for the country.
The other athletes to qualify from the group were Neeraj’s arch-rival Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan and Grenada’s Anderson Peters.
Nadeem was third with a throw of 86.59m, whereas Peters threw 88.63 to finish second. Since Neeraj Chopra’s first throw secured an easy qualification, he didn’t attempt for second and third throws and will directly play in the final.
