Neeraj Chopra’s homecoming delayed; Paris Olympics 2024 silver medalist in Germany to consult doctor: Reports
Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra, who recently won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024, is reportedly in Germany for medical consultation regarding a recurring groin injury. As per PTI, the two-time Olympic medalist will take medical advice regarding a possible surgery, which will affect his decision to appear in the upcoming Diamond League meetings.
As a result of his German detour, Neeraj Chopra will have to delay his arrival in India. Neeraj is unlikely to return to his home in Haryana for at least a month, during which time he will be in Germany, as per family sources cited by the PTI.
“Chopra has left for Germany and he will not return to India for another month and a half,” a source from Neeraj’s family told PTI. “I am not aware of much of the details but for sure he will consult a doctor there [Germany].”
Neeraj Chopra struggles at Paris Olympics 2024 due to niggling groin injury
Neeraj Chopra, who is called the ‘golden boy’ of Indian sports, would have been disappointed to settle for just a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. However, the javelin thrower later clarified that he had been suffering from a niggling groin injury, which impacted his ability to throw long distances.
“When I get ready for my throws, 70-80% of my focus is on my injury as I don’t want to aggravate it. My speed drops and so I start pushing myself,” Neeraj told the media after the Paris Olympics 2024 (as per TOI).
“Before the last World Championships, the doctor had advised me to go for surgery. But I didn’t have the time. I couldn’t do it before the Olympics either. But [now] I will have to make a big decision,” he added.
Neeraj Chopra had been struggling with this groin issue for some time now, with the athlete telling the media that he would consult doctors regarding his health after his gold medal-winning stint at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in June.
“Every year I have some problems with my adductor, maybe after the Olympics, I am going to talk to different doctors,” he said (as per Firstpost).
Neeraj Chopra even had to take a month’s rest before the Paris Olympics 2024 due to a niggling adductor muscle injury. However, the 26-year-old athlete will finally hope to get over his health issues in the post-Olympics break and return stronger than ever as he seeks to better his performance at the 2026 Asian Games.
