Neeraj Chopra World Ranking: Where is the Indian athlete ranked in men's javelin throw?
Reigning Olympic champion Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who has a personal best of 89.94m, currently holds the World No. 2 rank in the Men's Javelin Throw World Rankings with a score of 1413 points.
On the other hand, Czech Republic javelin thrower Jakub Vadlejch, who has a personal best of 90.88m, is on top of the rankings with a total score of 1419 points, just six points ahead of Neeraj Chopra.
German javelin thrower Julian Weber, who has a personal best of 89.54m, holds the World No. 3 rank with a score of 1367 points, close to 50 points away from the second-ranked javelin thrower.
On Tuesday, August 6, Neeraj Chopra will aim to defend his title at the Stade de France in the men’s javelin throw event. The final is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 8.
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Neeraj Chopra secured the gold medal with an impressive throw of 87.58 meters, emerging as the second Indian athlete after Norman Pritchard (Silver medal in 1900) to secure a medal in the track and field events at the Summer Games.
Neeraj Chopra in red-hot form in 2024 season ahead of Paris Olympics 2024
Neeraj Chopra started the ongoing 2024 season at the Doha Diamond League in May with a stupendous throw of 88.36m to secure the second spot. Later, he was part of the National Federation Cup Athletics Meet, bagging the gold medal with an 82.27m throw.
Subsequently, Chopra was expected to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike Athletics Meet in Czechia in May. However, he withdrew from the competition after suffering from a niggle in his adductors.
In June 2024, at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, he secured the gold medal with a throw of 85.97m. After the conclusion of the Finland Meet, Chopra headed to Turkiye for the training session at the Gloria Sports Arena till July 28.
Chopra reached the French capital on Tuesday, July 30 for the Paris Olympics 2024 along with the other athletes in the Indian contingent. He is one of the strong medal contenders from the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024.
