Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem throws 92.97m in second attempt; breaks Olympic Record in javelin throw at Paris 2024
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem registered a throw of 92.27m in his second attempt in the men's javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024 to set a new Olympic Record.
He deliberately overstepped in the first throw as it wasn't up to the mark, but managed to breach the 90m mark in his second attempt and broke the Olympic Record.
The previous Olympic record was held by Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen, who registered a throw of 90.57m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on August 23. The current World Record in men's javelin throw is 98.48m by Cezch Republic's Jan Železný. He registered the throw on May 25, 1996 in Jena.
Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem threw 88.72m in his third attempt in the men's javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday night. He is currently in contention for the gold medal.
Neeraj Chopra, on the other hand, is currently placed second with a best throw of 89.45m. He deliberately overstepped in his first and third throws as they weren't up to the mark. His season-best throw of 89.45m in the javelin final has helped him stay in contention for a medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic was placed third after the first three attempts, with a best throw of 88.50m, which came off his third throw in the javelin final.
Kenya's Julius Yego and Trinidad & Tobago's Keshron Walcott also registered their season best with throws of 87.72m and 86.16m, respectively.
