"Paris 2024 was exactly what I had imagined and more" - Arjun Babuta opens up on debut Olympics campaign
Arjun Babuta's debut at the Paris Olympics 2024 fell short of his own expectations. He participated in two events. On July 27, he partnered with Ramita Jindal in the mixed 10m air rifle event, finishing sixth and missing out on qualification to the final. On July 28, he competed in the men's 10-meter air rifle event and advanced to the final, which was held the next day.
However, despite registering a strong start to the individual event's final, one below-par shot cost him a podium finish, as he ended fourth. When he put down his equipment and walked back, he seemed disappointed with himself. His coach, Deepali Deshpande, a former shooter herself, knows his potential and claims that his era will start in 2025.
In a post shared on Instagram, Arjun Babuta shared a message for all the fans and people who supported him. He wrote:
"Forever grateful for this experience, Paris 2024 was exactly what I had imagined and more. Words can't really explain the emotions that went through my head in those final moments, finishing 4th at the Olympics has been an incredible experience filled with highs and lows.
"I know I was so close to bringing glory for our country, but I am truly proud of my performance and I hope you can be too."
He promised that he would prepare hard and come back stronger in the future.
"Though I missed the medal by a whisker, I promise to put in every effort to be back stronger and make the country proud," he added. "This is not the end, but just the beginning of a relentless pursuit. Thank you for standing by me and my colleagues at the Paris Olympics, we couldn't be more thankful to you all."
Arjun Babuta thanks coach and Ramita Jindal
Concluding his message on Instagram, the 25-year-old shooter shared his gratitude to his coach, Deepali Deshpande, who has been training and observing him for a long time.
"I am deeply grateful for the support from my family, coaches, friends, and fans," Arjun Babuta said. "Your belief in me has been my strength throughout this journey.
"I would especially like to thank my coach Deepali Deshpande ma'am who believed in me when even I couldn't, who kept me going. I would also like to take this moment to congratulate Ramita Jindal for your incredible journey. India is proud of you!"
Arjun Babuta is expected to take part in the upcoming Asian Games in 2026 and the Olympic Games in 2028.
