Paris 2024 Olympics Badminton Points Table: Group L standings updated after Lakshya Sen vs Julien Carraggi

Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen continued his fine form in the Paris 2024 Olympics after he defeated Belgium’s Julien Carraggi on Monday, July 29, with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-16. With this victory, he moves up to the top of the table of Group L in the men’s singles event.

Lakshya holds the top position jointly with Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie, who defeated Carraggi on Saturday. However, Lakshya has a better game difference than Christie, as the former won Monday’s clash without losing any games.

Lakshya will now face fellow table-topper Jonatan Christie on Wednesday in what will be the most crucial match of the group.

Lakshya Sen goes to the top of Group L despite the recent fiasco of ‘deleted’ win against Kevin Cordon

Lakshya Sen’s win against Julien Carraggi will give him some breathing space after the Indian shuttler saw his group opener victory against Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon ‘deleted’ on Sunday.

Five-time Olympian Kevin Cordon lost to Lakshya in straight sets with the scoreline of 21-8, 22-10 but had to withdraw from the Olympic Games due to a left elbow injury.

As a result, Lakshya’s Olympic debut victory was declared void as per the Badminton World Federation rules.

However, despite the setback, Lakshya Sen continued his winning run in his first Olympic Games appearance as he defeated Julien Carraggi. He took control of the match from the beginning, defeating Carraggi within 43 minutes to end the latter’s Paris 2024 Olympics journey.

The Commonwealth Games gold medalist will now turn his attention to third-seeded Jonatan Christie.

Since only one shuttler from each group can proceed to the Round of 16, Lakshya will need to beat Asian Games gold medalist Christie in the final Group L match on Wednesday to keep his Olympic dreams alive. Lakshya will also look to avenge his loss at the All England Open semi-final in March, where the former lost against Christie 12-21, 21-10, 15-21.

Indian fans will be able to watch the final Group K match between Lakshya Sen and Jonatan Christie on Wednesday at 1:40 pm IST.
