Paris 2024 Olympics Badminton Points Table: Group M updated standings after PV Sindhu vs Kristin Kuuba
Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu took another step towards a third consecutive Olympic medal after she defeated Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba in the second Group M game of the women’s badminton singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
With this victory, Sindhu cemented her position at the top of Group M, meaning she will proceed to the Round of 16 in this year’s Summer Olympic Games.
She has two wins in as many matches and finished the group stage with a perfect two points. Meanwhile, Kristin Kuuba is in second place with one point, having won one match against the Maldives’ Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq. The Maldivian shuttler, however, is at the bottom place after failing to win any games so far.
PV Sindhu will face the sixth-seeded Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao, who topped Group N, in Thursday's (August 1) Round of 16 match. Sindhu holds a significant advantage over her opponent, as she previously defeated her in the bronze medal match at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by a margin of 21-13, 21-15. Sindhu also emerged victorious the last time these players met, winning 21-9, 13-21, 21-19 in the 2022 Asia Championships quarter-finals.
PV Sindhu dominates against Kristin Kuuba in a one-sided match in Paris Olympics 2024
PV Sindhu’s match against Kristin Kuuba, ranked 73rd in the world, was barely a competition. The Indian star finished the match at the La Chapelle Arena within 32 minutes, winning it with a scoreline of 21-5, 21-10.
The first set of the match was one of the dominant displays of badminton in the Paris 2024 Olympics so far, with Sindhu ending the round with a victory in just 14 minutes.
Sindhu kept up her domination in the second set as well, despite Kuuba trying her best to give the match a semblance of competition. However, the Estonian shuttler looked distraught by the end of the match, and the set ended 21-10.
With this victory, PV Sindhu will move on to the pre-quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Round of 16 match will take place on Thursday from around 10:00 pm IST onwards.
