Paris 2024 Olympics Boxing Draw: Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen face tough draw; male boxers get byes

The Paris 2024 Olympics boxing draw has been revealed, and the female boxers of the Indian team face a tough road ahead in this year’s Summer Olympic Games.

India’s star boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain face a difficult Paris 2024 Olympics boxing draw in this year’s Olympic Games. The Asian Games medalists will need to be at their very best for any chance of a podium finish.

Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Borgohain (women’s 75 kg) faces a relatively safer first-round draw, as she will go against 20-year-old Sunniva Hofstad of Norway, but she has the chance of facing World Championships gold medalist Wu Yu of China in the second round.

Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Zareen (women’s 50 kg), seen as one of India’s brightest talents in Paris, will face World Championships and Asian Games gold medalist Wu Yu in the second round if she goes ahead. She will face Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer in the first round.

Olympic debutants Preeti Pawar (women’s 54 kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57 kg) also received a tricky boxing draw on Thursday. Pawar will face Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh in the first round but will face off against World Championships silver medalist Arias Castenada in the second round.

Lamboaria will have to be at her A-game from the beginning, as she will face Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines in the first round. If she manages to win, 2023 World Championships bronze medalist Amina Zidari will be waiting in the second round.

Amit Panghal and Nishant Dev face an easier Paris 2024 Olympics boxing draw

The Indian boxing team’s male pugilists face a much easier Paris 2024 Olympics boxing draw than their female counterparts, with both Amit Panghal (men’s 51 kg) and Nishant Dev (men’s 71 kg) getting a bye in the first rounds of their competition.

While Commonwealth Games gold medalist Panghal will face the Commonwealth bronze medalist Patrick Chinyemba of Zambia in the second round, Dev will compete in the second round against Ecuador’s Jose Gabriel Rodriguez Tenorio.

The boxing events of the Paris 2024 Olympics will start on July 27 and will end on August 10.
