Paris 2024 Olympics: Did India win a medal on Day 4, July 29?
Heading into Day 4 of the Paris 2024 Olympics, India had high hopes in all three medal events: Women's Shooting (10M Air Rifle), Men's Shooting (10m Air Rifle), and the Men's Archery team. Unfortunately, all three contenders fell short, resulting in no medals for India today.
The highlight of the day came from Arjun Babuta, who finished fourth in the Men's 10m Air Rifle event. Babuta, competing in the men's 10m air rifle, narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth with a score of 208.4. He gave a tough fight in the initial rounds, scoring big, but slipped to 9.9 on his 13th shot, leading to his downfall.
Croatia's Miran Maricic secured the medal cutoff with 209.8, leaving Arjun Babuta just 1.4 points short of the podium. China's Lihao Sheng, the world record holder, shot an Olympic record of 252.2 to win gold.
Ramita Jindal of India finished seventh in the women's 10m air rifle final at the 2024 Paris Olympics with 145.3 points. She was positioned third after nine shots but fell to seventh after scoring 9.7 on her 10th shot. Ramita then found herself in a shoot-off against France's Oceanne Muller for elimination, ultimately losing with a score of 10.5 as Muller scored 10.8.
Heading into the quarter-finals, the Indian Men's Archery team had high hopes, with Dhiraj Bommadevara finishing 4th and the team 3rd in the ranking matches. However, the team, consisting of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, lost 6-2 to Turkiye at the Paris Olympics.
Pravin Jadhav was India's standout performer, scoring four 10s, three 9s, and an 8. Dhiraj, despite his strong ranking, struggled with consistency.
The third-seeded Indian team fell behind early, losing the first set 57-53 to the sixth-seeded Turkish team of Mete Gazoz, Berkim Tumer, and Abdullah Yildirmis. India showed resilience in the third set, winning it 55-54, but finally lost the fourth set 58-54, thereby bowing out of the Olympic campaign.
