Paris 2024 Olympics: What is Annu Rani's personal best in javelin throw?
Annu Rani will represent India in the women's javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024. She will be in action in the qualification round of the event on August 7 and the final round taking place on August 10.
Rani's personal best performance is also the national record, which came in May 2022. She secured a gold medal with a throw of 63.82m at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition in Jamshedpur.
The same year, she also had gold medal finishes in competitions like the Federation Cup in Thenhipalam and National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships in Chennai and the Indian National Games in Gujarat.
Importantly, the talented javelin thrower secured a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a throw of 60m.
The 31-year-old started 2023 on a grand note as she clinched a yellow metal at the Federation Cup in Ranchi and the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.
Annu Rani made her country proud by winning a gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou with a throw of 62.92m. In fact, she was the first Indian woman to secure a gold medal in the sport.
After failing to achieve the Paris qualification mark of 64m, Rani secured a place through the ranking quota. She was 20th in the Road to Paris rankings with the top 32 athletes making the cut for the Games.
The experienced athlete also participated in the Tokyo Olympics, finishing 29th with a throw of 54.04m.
How has Annu Rani performed in 2024?
Annu Rani has had an impressive 2024 ahead of the crucial Paris Olympics. Apart from a sixth-place finish at the Hylo Javelin Meeting in Offenburg, she had a podium finish in the other four events.
The Indian athlete finished with silver medals in Internationales Pfingstsportfest Rehlingen, Rehlingen, Hallesche Werfertage, Halle and Meeting National de Strasbourg, Strasbourg. Rani also secured a gold medal at the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships with a 57.70m throw.
It will be interesting to see if Annu Rani can win a medal for the country in her second appearance at the Olympics.
