Paris 2024 Olympics: What is Jeswin Aldrin's personal best in long jump?
Jeswin Aldrin will be the lone representative in the men's long jump at the Paris Olympics 2024. The event will take place on August 4 and 6 at the Stade de France, the country's premier stadium for hosting big-ticket competitions.
Aldrin's personal best performance was also a national record, which came in March 2023. He achieved the feat with a jump of 8.42m at the Indian Open Jumps Competition in Bellary.
He was the last-minute entry at the Games, after failing to meet the Paris qualification mark of 8.27m. He occupied the 31st rank in the top 32 long jump athletes making it to France's capital.
2022 proved to be a breakthrough year for Jeswin Aldrin, as he finished first in the Indian Grand Prix, Thiruvananthapuram with a jump of 8.20m. He then impressed with another gold medal finish at the Federation Cup in Thenhipalam with a jump of 8.37m and closed out the year with another gold at the Indian National Games in Gujarat with a jump of 8.26m.
Aldrin had an impressive 2023 with a silver medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, Nur-Sultan and National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships, Bhubaneshwar with a jump of 7.97m and 7.98m, respectively.
At the Asian Games, the 22-year-old managed an eighth-place finish, with a jump of 7.76m.
Jeswin Aldrin's performances in 2024
This year has been hot and cold for Jeswin Aldrin, as he has performed well in various competitions while failing to secure a podium finish in a few of them.
Aldrin's only gold during this season came at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, where the talented athlete achieved a jump of 7.99m. He secured a silver in three competitions, namely the Mondeville Meeting, the Meeting Stanislas Nancy and the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships.
He also had bronze medal finishes in competitions like Meeting 3 Sauts and Belgrade Indoor Meeting. There were three other tournaments that saw Aldrin finish outside the top 3.
It will be interesting to see if Aldrin can secure a medal for the country in his debut Olympic campaign.
