Paris 2024 Olympics: What is Jyothi Yarraji's personal best in 100m hurdles?

Jyothi Yarraji is set to represent India in the 100m hurdles event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Interestingly, she is the first-ever Indian track and field athlete to qualify for the Games. The first round of the event will get underway on August 7 at Stade de France, which holds a seating capacity of 80,000 spectators.

Jyothi produced her personal best performance of 12.78s at the Motonet GP athletics meet 2023, but missed the Paris qualification mark of 12.77m by 0.01s. Surprisingly, she had missed the qualification by the same margin at the World University Games in Chengdu, China 2023 as well.

In recent years, the talented runner has been particularly dominant in Asian competitions. The high point of her career came when she secured a gold medal in the 100m hurdles event in the 2022 Asian Games. The 24-year-old was also impressive to bag a gold in the 100m hurdles and a silver in 200m events at the Asian Athletics Championships.

Jyothi also featured in the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham. Although she did fine to finish fourth in her heat with a timing of 13.18 in the 100m hurdles, she could not progress into the semi-final round. The Vizag-born athlete also participated in the 4 × 100 m relay event along with Dutee Chand, Hima Das, and Srabani Nanda, where they finished fifth with a timing of 43.81s.

Meanwhile, Jyothi is a national record holder in the 60m hurdles event, having finished the race with a timing of 8.13s at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2023 at Nur Sultan in Kazakhstan.

Since 2019, the hurdler has been training under British coach James Hillier at the Reliance Athletics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.

This year, Jyothi Yarraji has participated in a plethora of events in different categories like 100m, 200m, 60m hurdles, and 100m hurdles.

Interestingly, Jyothi finished with a gold medal in almost all her appearances in the 100m hurdles. The recent Inter State Athletics Championships in Panchkula witnessed her winning the gold medal with a timing of 13.06s.

With an astounding form in recent competitions, Jyothi Yarraji is expected to be a key medal contender for the country at the Paris Olympics.
