Paris 2024 Olympics: What is Praveen Chithravel's personal best in triple jump?

Praveen Chithravel will represent India in the men's triple jump event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The event will take place on August 7 and 9 at the Stade de France.

Chithravel's personal best record was also the national record, which came at the Prueba de Confrontacion 2023 meet in Cuba in May 2023. He returned with a jump of 17.37m and finished with a gold medal.

However, the talented jumper could not secure a direct qualification to the Olympics after failing to meet the entry standard of 17.22m since the qualification period began on July 1, 2023. Nonetheless, Praveen Chithravel made the cut for the Games through the Road to Paris rankings after being ranked 23rd out of 32 top triple jumpers.

The 23-year-old got recognition after winning silver at the National Federation Cup in Thenhipalam with a jump of 16.84m. He then finished with a gold medal at the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships in Chennai with a jump of 17.18m.

Then, with a jump of 16.89m at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, he had a fourth-place finish. Chithravel closed out the year by winning a gold medal at the National Games in Gujarat with a jump of 16.68m.

2023 proved to be a successful year for Praveen Chithravel, as he shattered a national indoor record with a 16.98m effort at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Nur-Sultan. He also secured golds at the Indian Open Jumps Competition, Bellary and the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships, Bhubaneswar.

Later in the same year, Chithravel finished with a bronze medal at the Asian Games with a jump of 16.68m.


How has Praveen Chithravel fared in 2024?

It has been an impressive start to the year for the talented triple jumper, as he has had five podium finishes in seven competitions. After finishing 11th in the World Athletics Indoor Championships, Praveen Chithravel bounced back with golds in the Indian Grand Prix -1, Bengaluru and Federation Cup, Bhubaneswar.

Interestingly, Chithravel produced his best effort of 17.12m at the Indian Grand Prix -1, but could not meet the aforementioned mark. Then, he secured a silver at the P-T-S meeting, Banská Bystrica, and a bronze medal at the Meeting Nikaia, Nice.

Praveen Chithravel is coming into the Paris Olympics after bagging a silver at the National Interstate Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneshwar with a jump of 16.98m.
