Paris 2024 Paralympics Para Shooting: Rubina Francis claims bronze in Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics

India's Rubina Francis secured a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event on Saturday, August 31 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Her final score of 211.1 earned her a spot on the podium, adding another medal to India’s shooting tally at these Games. Rubina had earlier missed out on a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, finishing seventh.

The 25-year-old from Madhya Pradesh started the final with a solid 10.7, putting her in a strong position early on. However, the competition was intense, and after a few ups and downs in her scores, Rubina found herself in third place as the elimination rounds began. Despite the pressure, she remained focused, delivering key shots that kept her in the medal hunt.

In the crucial elimination rounds, Rubina’s consistency was tested, but she held her ground. By the fifth round, her spot on the podium was secured, but her hopes for gold slipped away after a couple of lower scores in the sixth round.

Rubina Francis finished with a bronze, while Iran’s Sareh Javanmardi took gold with a dominant score of 236.8, continuing her reign as a three-time Paralympic champion. Turkey’s Aysel Ozgan, who holds the world record, claimed the silver with 231.1 points.

Rubina Francis’s bronze adds to India’s growing success at the Paris Paralympics. She joins the ranks of Avani Lekhara, Mona Agarwal and Manish Narwal, all of whom have won shooting medals for India at these Games. The 2024 edition has already been good for India, with Preethi Pal winning a bronze medal in the 100m and Suhas Yathiraj and Sukant Kadam confirming badminton medals after reaching the semifinals.
