Paris-bound Avinash Sable gifts a new car to his parents
Indian steeplechase runner Avinash Sable gifted a brand new Mahindra Thar SUV to his parents before his departure to France for the forthcoming Paris Olympics 2024, scheduled to start on July 26, Friday.
On June 26, Wednesday, Sable took to Instagram to post a story of his parents posing for a photo with the brand-new car outside their house. He captioned the picture, ‘new one’.
Sable was born on September 13, 1994, in Mandwa, Beed district, Maharashtra, into a family of farmers. At 21, he first took part in inter-army cross-country running before taking up steeplechase as a sport.
Avinash Sable secured the Paris Olympics 2024 quota after meeting the qualifying standard (8:15.00 seconds) set by the IOC in the men’s 3000m steeplechase at the Diamond League series in Silesia, Poland in 2023, clocking 8:11.63 seconds. He finished at the sixth rank in the final standings.
In Asian Games 2018, Avinash Sable couldn’t compete due to an ankle injury. However, he broke the 37-year-old national record of 8:30.88 seconds held by Gopal Saini, clocking 8:29.80 seconds at the National Open Championships in 2018.
Later, he created a new national record in March 2019 at the Federation Cup, clocking 8:28.94 seconds. As a result, he later qualified for the Asian Athletics Championships and World Athletics Championships in the same year.
It’s worth noting that Sable became the first male steeplechaser from India to qualify for the World Championships since Deena Ram, who achieved the feat in 1991.
Avinash Sable has set a new national record on nine occasions
Sable bagged the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022, creating a new national record with 8:11.20 seconds. Interestingly, it was the first time an athlete from outside Kenya had secured a medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase at the CWG since 1994.
At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Sable set a new national record of 8:18.12 seconds and ended as the fastest non-qualifier across all heats. He was placed seventh in the heats.
Notably, he clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2023 in the 3000m steeplechase and also secured a silver medal in the 5000m.
Remarkably, Avinash Sable has set a new national record on nine occasions. During a recent interview with Jio Cinema, he stated that he has enough potential to end up on the podium at the forthcoming Summer Games in Paris.
