Paris Olympics 2024: 9 Indian track and field athletes qualify through rankings
Indian athletics received a significant boost as nine track and field athletes have secured their spots for the Paris Olympics 2024 through the World Athletics Road to Paris rankings. The cut-off date for athletics qualification was June 30, coinciding with the conclusion of the 63rd National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula, Haryana.
The updated list, released on Tuesday, July 2, by World Athletics, confirmed the qualification of nine Indian athletes who made it into the qualification zone for their respective events.
According to International Olympic Committee (IOC) guidelines, National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority to select their country's representatives for the Olympic Games. Therefore, the final entry list will be confirmed by the world body on July 8 after the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) submits its final roster.
Previously, India secured 14 quotas in athletics either by meeting entry standards or through designated qualifying competitions.
