Paris Olympics 2024 Athletics: Kiran Pahal finishes 6th in women’s 400m repechage heat; fails to qualify for semi-finals
Indian sprinter Kiran Pahal has failed to qualify for the semi-final round of the women’s 400m event in the Paris Olympics 2024 after finishing in sixth position in Heat 1 of the repechage round on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old athlete from Haryana finished at the bottom of her heat after clocking a timing of 52.59 seconds.
Kiran Pahal, a three-time national champion, will see her Paris Olympics 2024 journey end as she failed to come even close to the first position in her repechage round heat – a requirement for qualifying for the next stage of the event. Only the first-placed athlete in each heat qualifies for the semi-final round, along with the next two fastest sprinters.
Kiran Pahal finished in the seventh spot in the qualification round of the women’s 400m event on Monday and thus moved on to the repechage event to secure a qualification berth. However, she will be disappointed with the results in her second Olympic race, as she was nowhere near her personal best of 50.92 seconds which she recorded in the National Inter-State Championships in June.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 19-year-old prodigy Ella Onojuvwevwo has secured her qualification to the semi-final round of the women’s 400m event after finishing in the first position in the repechage round with a timing of 50.59s.
The other athletes to qualify from other repechage heats are Puerto Rico’s Gabby Scott (Heat 2), Great Britain’s Victoria Ohuruogu (Heatb3), and the USA’s Kendall Ellis (Heat 4).
Meanwhile, Heat 2’s participants Miranda Charlene Coetzee (South Africa) and Czechia’s Lurdes Gloria Manuel have progressed through to the semi-finals as well by virtue of being the next two fastest sprinters outside the top spots.
