Paris Olympics 2024 Badminton: Indian duo Satwik-Chirag placed in Group C of men’s doubles alongside Alfian-Ardianto
The rescheduled draw of Paris Olympics 2024 badminton men’s doubles was announced on Monday, July 15. The third-seeded Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been drawn into Group C alongside the French pair of Lucas Ronan and Corvee Lee, the Indonesian duo of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel of Germany.
The pair of Satwik-Chirag ranked World No. 3 are one of the top medal prospects of India at the Paris Olympics 2024. They are the only Indian pair to reach the World No. 1 ranking and have been in fine form in recent years, having clinched the Asian Games gold and the Thomas Cup title.
The Paris Olympics 2024 badminton draw took place on Friday, July 12, but the men’s doubles draw was postponed, citing a ruling by the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS). The French pair Lucas Corvée and Ronan Labar had to be included in a revised 17-pair men's doubles draw instead of the 16 pairs that originally qualified.
This was the result of an award by the CAS ordering the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to recommend to the International Olympic Committee that Corvée/Labar be included in the Olympic Games.
Thus, the 17 pairs in the Paris Olympics 2024 badminton men's doubles are divided into four pairs, each in Group A to C, and five pairs in Group D.
