Indian badminton sensation Lakshya Sen has continued his impressive run at the Paris Olympics 2024, securing a spot in the semi-finals with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.
Ranked 22nd in the world, Lakshya Sen faced a tough challenge against the World No. 11 Chou Tien Chen. The Taiwanese shuttler was dominant in the first game with powerful smashes, managing to edge out Sen 21-19. Despite the loss, Sen put up a great fight, pushing Chou to his limits in a closely contested opener.
In the second game, Sen emerged with renewed vigor and aggression, altering the momentum of the match. Adopting a more offensive strategy, he successfully kept Chou at bay, winning the game 21-15 and setting the stage for a decisive third game.
The final game began with both players fighting fiercely for control. However, Sen's hunger to win and superior play saw him dominate, clinching the game 21-12. This comprehensive victory in the third game secured his place in the semi-finals of the men’s singles event.
Lakshya Sen vs Chou Tien Chen was marked by long rallies
The quarterfinal clash between Lakshya Sen and Chou Tien Chen was marked by intense rallies and endurance from both players. The first two games, in particular, featured numerous long rallies and tested their physical and mental stamina.
The longest rally of the match, comprising 51 shots, occurred in the first game. The second game saw the longest rally of 43 shots, while the third game included a rally of 34 shots. On average, the rallies lasted for about eight shots each.
With this victory, Sen advances to the semi-finals, where he will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and Denmark's Viktor Axelsen. This upcoming match is scheduled for August 4.
