Paris Olympics 2024 Badminton: PV Sindhu off to a flying start with easy victory against Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq 

Two-time Olympic medalist, PV Sindhu, began her campaign at the Paris Olympics 2024 with an emphatic victory over Maldives' Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq .

The first set began with Sindhu controlling most of the points and dominating the rallies, not giving her opponent a chance to get on the attack. Despite an equal number of unforced errors that kept the score close at 5-4, Sindhu found her rhythm and surged forward, winning six consecutive points to lead 11-4 at the interval.

Maintaining her momentum, she extended her winning streak to nine points, making it 14-4. Although a few unforced errors allowed her opponent to gain some points, Sindhu closed the set decisively at 21-9.

The second set saw Sindhu take an early 4-1 lead, quickly surging to an 11-3 advantage. Her powerful smashes, deceptive strokes, and brilliant net play in the second game hinted at what is to come later in the tournament.

After the interval, Sindhu continued her dominant performance, conceding only three more points to Fathimath, emulating the proceedings of the first half, and then went on to close the set and match with a commanding 21-6 victory.

PV Sindhu’s next match in the group stage of Paris Olympics will be against Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba on July 31 at 12:50 PM IST.


Lakshya Sen, Satwik-Chirag start off with wins at the Paris Olympics 2024, HS Prannoy in action later today

Yesterday, Indian men's singles shuttler Lakshya Sen delivered an impressive straight-game victory over Kevin Cordon. Sen dominated the opening set with a decisive 21-8 win and clinched the second set 22-20 to secure his victory.

In men's doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also triumphed in their group stage match, defeating the French pair Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar with scores of 21-17, 21-14.

However, India's women's doubles pair, Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, went down fighting to the World No. 7 pair, Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong from South Korea.

Later today, India’s HS Prannoy will begin his campaign at the Paris Olympics against Germany’s Fabian Roth in his group stage match at 8:00 PM IST.
