India’s star boxer Lovlina Borgohain is gearing up to get her Paris 2024 Olympics campaign underway. Lovlina will be taking on Norwegian boxer Sunniva Hofstad in her round of 16 clash today (July 31). The boxers will be competing in the women’s 75kg category.
Seeded eighth, Lovlina Borgohain is India’s only-seeded boxer at the Summer Games. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist will be competing in the hopes of going a step further and bettering the color of her medal from the last edition. The 26-year-old qualified for the Games in Paris by competing in the finals of the 2023 Asian Games, where she won the silver.
Lovlina recently won the silver medal in the women’s 75 kg category at the 2024 Grand Prix boxing competition held in the Czech Republic. The pugilist has performed well in the recent past and would enter the upcoming bout with confidence.
However, Borgohain should expect a good challenge from her opponent in her first match. Sunniva Hofstad qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics by beating three boxers consecutively in the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier held in March 2024.
Hoftsad became the junior world champion in 2022 and stood as the European junior champion in 2021 and 2022. She has had a great couple of years leading into the Paris Olympics.
The boxer also clinched the gold medal in the 2023 Tammer Tournament as well as in the Norweigan National Women’s Championships.
