Paris Olympics 2024: BTS member Jin leaves for France; set to take part as torchbearer representing South Korea
The oldest member of South Korean boy band BTS, Jin is all set to be a part of the Paris Olympics 2024 as a torchbearer. The singer cum songwriter left for France from Incheon International Airport on Thursday, July 11 morning.
The Summer Games in Paris will commence on July 26 and conclude on August 11. Over 10,000 athletes are expected to compete across 329 events in 32 sports at the Games in Paris.
Notably, Jin recently completed his mandatory military service. The 31-year-old will be representing South Korea in the torch relay, and he will be aiming to spread the message of harmony and peace.
However, there is no specific timeline decided yet. He is likely to move across various historic places in France along with other torchbearers. Importantly, the torch relay for the Paris Olympics started in April 2024.
The news came after Jin culminated his 18-month military service in June 2024. He initiated the service at a military boot camp in South Korea in 2022. He was enlisted in the military in December 2022 and grabbed the spotlight after achieving the prestigious ‘Special Class (Elite) Warriors’ rank, commonly referred to as ‘Elite Soldier’, just after four months of his service.

A lot of his fans and media personnel gathered at the airport to give a send-off and show their support to Jin ahead of the mega event in Paris.
He posted a reassuring message for his fans on Weverse, stating that “I’ll go and come back”. A fan shared his message on X (formerly Twitter).
The Paris Olympics 2024 torch relay is a tradition that takes us down memory lane to the roots of the Games. The first torch for Paris 2024 was lit by the sun’s rays on April 16, 2024, during a prestigious ceremony in the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece, the place where the ancient Olympics were once staged.
The torch relay will span across 64 regions in France and culminate on the day of the opening ceremony on July 26.
