Paris Olympics 2024 Indian Archery Squad: Complete list of archers in the Indian contingent ft. Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai
The Indian archery team is all set to field a maximum of six archers at the Paris Olympics 2024. They secured coveted spots in both the men's and women's recurve events.
The archery events will kick off on July 25 with the individual ranking round, a day prior to the Opening Ceremony of the Games in Paris. Meanwhile, the subsequent rounds will take place from July 28 to August 4 at Les Invalides.
Coming back to the Indian archery contingent, the Paris Olympics 2024 will mark the first time since the 2012 London Games that India will be sending a full quota of archers to the Olympics. Leading the pack are seasoned archers and three-time Olympians Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai.
Deepika was the lone female archer at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but this time, she will have debutants Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat in the women’s recurve archery team. This is the first time in eight years that the Indian women’s archery team has qualified for the Olympics.
Meanwhile, 40-year-old Tarundeep Rai will be joined by Tokyo 2020 Olympian Pravin Jadhav and debutant Dhiraj Bommadevara.
Dhiraj and Bhajan secured direct quotas for the Paris Olympics 2024 in individual events, but they were then upgraded to team quotas. This has allowed the Indian team to compete in all five medal events.
Indian archers have yet to clinch an Olympic medal, but this year, with a strong and diverse team, hopes are high. The debutants Dhiraj, Ankita, and Bhajan are coming into the Olympics after a great run at the World Cup Stage 3. The combination of seasoned veterans and in-form newcomers could be the key to breaking this medal drought at the Summer Olympics.
With their sights set on the podium, the Indian archery team is ready to take on the world's best at the Paris Olympics 2024.
