Paris Olympics 2024 Indian Badminton Squad: Complete list of shuttlers in the Indian contingent ft. PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen
The Indian badminton squad will include a total of seven shuttlers for the Paris Olympics 2024. It will be their joint-ever largest badminton contingent at the Summer Olympics.
During the Road to Paris qualification period, the Indian shuttlers secured a total of five quotas with three in singles and two in doubles. Two-time Olympics medalist PV Sindhu will be a part of women’s singles and will also be the flag bearer of India alongside paddler Sharath Kamal during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. She booked her ticket for the Paris Olympics after sitting at the 12th spot in the women’s rankings.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen finished 13th, and HS Prannoy was placed in the ninth spot to secure their berth for men’s singles. The star duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty qualified for the men’s doubles after securing third place.
The inexperienced pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa also made their way to the Paris Olympics 2024 in women’s doubles after finishing 13th.
India are a serious contender to bag multiple medals this time in Paris. The only medals for Indian badminton in the Olympics have come in women’s singles - one by Saina Nehwal and two by PV Sindhu. The latter will aim to make it a hat-trick of podium finishes to become the first-ever individual Indian athlete to win three medals at the Summer Olympics.
Meanwhile, the Asian Games 2023 gold medalist duo of Satwik-Chirag are also frontrunners to win a medal. They are the only Indian pair to claim the World No.1 ranking and are currently ranked third.
The badminton events at the Paris Olympics 2024 will start on July 27 until August 5 at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena in the north of Paris. The Indian badminton team will be high on confidence, given the strength of their squad and will be aiming to create history in Paris.
