Paris Olympics 2024 Indian Boxing Squad: Complete list of boxers in the Indian contingent ft. Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain
The Indian boxing team is gearing up for the Paris Olympics 2024 with a contingent of six pugilists ready to take on the world's best. This time around, the team features four female and two male boxers, all eager to make their mark on the quadrennial event.
The qualification process for the Paris Olympics was a long and tough one, with boxers having to navigate through various tournaments and qualifiers to secure their spots. For the Indian boxing team, the journey began at the Asian Games 2022, where Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg) won bronze medals to confirm their berths.
Jaismine Lamboria's spot was confirmed much later after Parveen Hooda's suspension by WADA opened up a window of opportunity. Lamboria seized the chance with a win over Marine Camara of Mali in the quarter-finals of the 2024 World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok.
On the men's side, Nishant Dev became the first Indian boxer to secure a Paris Olympics quota after making the semi-finals of the men's 71kg category at the 2024 World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers. Amit Panghal followed suit, winning a unanimous 5-0 decision over China's Liu Chuang in the quarter-finals to book his ticket to Paris.
With their qualifications complete, the Indian boxing contingent is now focused on preparing for the biggest stage of them all. Lovlina Borgohain, who won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is back and hungrier for success.
India's boxing history is marked by only three Olympic medals so far - Vijender Singh's bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, MC Mary Kom's bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, and Lovlina Borgohain's bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
