Indian golf squad is all set to make a mark at the Paris Olympics 2024, with four golfers gearing up to represent the country on the global stage. Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar, Shubhankar Sharma, and Gaganjeet Bhullar will be donning the Indian jersey in Paris.
Shubhankar Sharma ranked 219th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), is the top-ranked Indian male golfer. The 27-year-old has an impressive record, having been the No. 1 player in Asia in 2018 and a two-time winner on the European Tour. He qualified for the Paris Olympics after ranking 48th on the Olympic Golf Rankings (OGR) during the qualification period.
Gaganjeet Bhullar, 36, is an 11-time Asian Tour champion and a silver medalist at the 2006 Asian Games. Currently ranked 293rd in the world, he secured his spot in Paris by ranking 54th on the OGR. Both Sharma and Bhullar will be making their Olympic debuts.
Meanwhile, Aditi Ashok, who finished an impressive fourth at Tokyo 2020 (the best result ever for an Indian in golf at the Olympics), has secured her spot in her third Summer Olympics (most by any Indian).
Ranked 60th in the world currently, she is a five-time winner on the Ladies European Tour (LET). The 25-year-old was 25th in the OGR after the qualification window ended, ensuring her place in Paris.
Diksha Dagar, world No. 165, is a two-time LET winner and a silver medalist at the Asian Games 2023. She finished 41st in the OGR to make it in the Indian golf team for Paris Olympics 2024. Notably, Dagar is the only golfer to have played in both the Olympics and the Deaflympics, with two medals in the latter.
With a strong four-member contingent, the Indian golf team will be eager to secure its first-ever medal at the Olympics.
