Paris Olympics 2024: ISSF selects Pawan Singh as jury member for shooting

Pawan Singh, joint-secretary general of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), has been selected by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as one of the jury members for shooting sports at the Paris Olympics 2024. The global event is scheduled to start on July 26 and will conclude on August 11.

Notably, this will be the second successive stint for Pawan Singh at the Summer Games after assuming the same role at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Pawan along with three others will be a part of the RTS (Result, Timing, Score) jury members.

“It is going to be my second Olympics, and India will be sending their biggest shooting contingent. We will have 21 shooters competing for 27 medals at Paris, which is second after China,” he said PTI.

Pawan Singh is the first and only Indian to be shooting sport jury

Pawan continues to be the first and only Indian to get selected as a shooting official. Though he won medals at state and national championships during his competitive career, he couldn't make the cut for the Olympic team as a shooter.

"But I will represent the country in a different role proudly. It is no less than a dream come true to be a part of the world's biggest sports event," he said as quoted by TOI.

Besides being the joint secretary of NRAI, he is also the director of the association’s education program, conducting multiple courses for judges and juries. He is confident of delivering his best with accurate results at the quadrennial event in Paris.

"Being a director of the NRAI education programme, I have conducted many courses for judges and jury. So, I am well prepared. One cannot rule out the crunch situations (at any event) and I would deliver my best in those critical times and give accurate results,” he added.

Pawan Singh and London Olympics bronze-medallist shooter Gagan Narang are co-founders of Gun For Glory Shooting Academy. Interestingly Pawan’s appointment coincided with Gagan’s selection as the Chef-de-Mission of the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024.

A 21-member Indian shooting team will participate in Paris 2024. The NRAI had announced a strong squad and the Indian shooting contingent will be competing for 27 medals in the French capital.
