Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh qualify for the bronze medal match in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team
Indian shooter Manu Bhaker is in contention for another bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. On Monday, July 29, she qualified for the bronze medal match in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team with Sarabjot Singh.
Bhaker continued her remarkable form from her previous day's success by hitting 7 Xs in her first 10 shots. Sarabjot Singh, despite a slower start, came back by finishing strong in the final two series, consistently hitting 10s. Together, they amassed a total score of 580-20x, placing them third in the qualifications.
Manu Bhaker's series scores were 98, 98, and 95, totaling 291-12x, while Sarabjot scored 95, 97, and 97, summing up to 289-8x. This impressive collaboration has now positioned them to face South Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho in the bronze medal shootout. The Korean pair finished fourth with a score of 579-18x.
This matchup carries additional significance as Oh Ye Jin clinched the gold medal in the individual competition, where Manu Bhaker won bronze. Manu Bhaker now has the chance to secure her second medal in the Paris Olympics 2024, potentially making history as the first Indian female athlete to win two medals in a single Olympics.
Turkey's Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec equaled the Olympic record with a score of 582-18x, securing the top spot. Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec followed closely, finishing second with a score of 581-24x. They will now compete for the gold medal.
The other Indian team in this event, comprising Arjun Cheema and Rhythm Sangwan, started strong and were close to breaking into the top four. However, they ultimately finished 10th with a total score of 576-14x.
