China, with 25 gold medals, held the second position on Day 12 of the ongoing Summer Games. The USA not only led the gold medal count but has also amassed a substantial overall tally of 94 medals, including 35 silver and 32 bronze.
With a total of 65 medals, China's athletes have been commendable as well. Its tally comprises 23 silver and 17 bronze medals. Australia, maintaining its strong presence in the Games, secured 18 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze, bringing their total to 41 by the end of Day 12.

A setback for India at the Paris Olympics 2024
For India, Day 12 of the Paris Olympics 2024 started with a massive setback. Vinesh Phogat, who was well on her way to becoming the first Indian female wrestler to bring in gold or silver, was disqualified.
The 29-year-old was found overweight by 100 grams on the morning of the final at the Paris Olympics 2024. Despite her team's immense efforts, they failed to shred the extra weight.
A picture of heartbroken and devasted Vinesh Phogat made its rounds on social media as the nation mourned this cruel twist of fate. The day ended with yet another heartbreak, as one of India's brightest medal prospects Mirabai Chanu missed the podium finish by just one kilogram.
The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist wrapped up her campaign in fourth place, as she lifted a total of 199 kg. She narrowly missed out on the bronze medal, which was claimed by Thailand's Surodchana Khambao — 200 kg.
Both Chanu and Khambao lifted 88 kg in the snatch round but the Thai athlete edged ahead by lifting 112 kg in the clean and jerk, compared to Chanu's 110 kg. Chanu made two attempts to lift 117 kg but failed both times.
