Paris Olympics 2024 Medal Count Day 9: Updated Gold, Bronze & Silver medal tally for all countries
The day nine of the Paris Olympics 2024 saw the United States surge past China to claim the top spot on the medal table after Noah Lyles secured a thrilling victory in the men’s 100m sprint on Monday.
Both nations have clinched 19 gold medals each; however, the USA holds a commanding lead with a greater number of silver and bronze medals, bringing their total to an impressive 71. In comparison, China lags behind with a total of 45 medals.
Meanwhile, Paris Olympics 2024 host nation France is making a strong showing, currently sitting in third place with 12 gold medals. With 44 total medals, including 14 silver and 18 bronze, France is keeping the pressure on the top two nations. Australia follows closely, also with 12 golds, but with fewer overall medals at 31.
Great Britain holds the fifth spot, with 10 golds contributing to its total of 37 medals. South Korea and Japan are neck and neck, each with 10 and nine golds, respectively. Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany round out the top ten of Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally , with Germany's tally of 12 medals putting them just behind the Netherlands.
In stark contrast, India has struggled to make a significant impact, sitting in 57th place with just three bronze medals. All three of them have come from shooting with Manu Bhaker leading the charge.
A mixed day 9 for India at the Paris Olympics 2024
India experienced a day of highs and lows on Day 9 of the Paris Olympics 2024, with mixed results across various sports.
In hockey, the Indian men’s team delivered a thrilling victory, defeating Great Britain in a penalty shootout to secure their place in the Paris Olympics 2024 semi-finals. However, the day was less fortunate for India in badminton, as Lakshya Sen narrowly missed out on a finals spot, losing 20-22, 14-21 to reigning champion Viktor Axelsen. He will now compete for bronze.
In athletics, Parul Chaudhary’s journey ended as she finished eighth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase Round 1. Jeswin Aldrin also faced disappointment, finishing 13th in Group B of the men’s long jump qualification, missing out on a place in the finals.
Shooting saw Vijayveer Singh and Anish finish fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 25m rapid fire men's pistol qualification Stage 1. Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon struggled in the women’s skeet qualification, finishing 14th and 23rd, failing to qualify for the finals.
In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain was knocked out after losing in the women’s 75kg quarter-final. Meanwhile, in golf, Shubhankar Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar concluded their campaigns, finishing T40 and T45 respectively after Round 4.
