Paris Olympics 2024: Ramita Jindal qualifies for 10m air rifle final, Elavenil Valarivan misses out by a whisker
After the conclusion of the women’s 10m air rifle qualification round, Ramita Jindal made the cut to the final with a score of 631.5. She required a shot of 10.3 points on her final attempt and she got 10.4 to secure the fifth position.
On the other hand, Elavenil Valarivan, who dominated till the end of the last series, ended at the 10th spot with a score of 630.7. A 9.8 on the 59th shot in the final series cost her a spot as she settled for the 10th rank with 0.6 points short of making it to the final.
Interestingly, Ramita started off on a slower note before pressing the clutch at the right moment to get enough points in the last two series to qualify for the women’s 10m air rifle final.
Ramita's scores in the series read 104.3, 106, 104.9, 105.3 and 105.3. She brought up her best effort in the final series, scoring 105.7 to propel from the bottom to the fifth rank. However, it turned out to be exactly the reverse for Elavenil Valarivan.
She initiated with scores of 105.8, 106.1, 104.4, 105.3, and 105.3. However, when her best effort was needed, her 103.8 cost her the top-eight position, leaving her unable to make it to the final.
Notably, Korea’s Hyojin Ban created the new Qualification Olympic Record with a total score of 634.5 in the qualification competition. She defeated Norway’s Jeanette Hegg Duestad (632.9), who set the record in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Switzerland's Gogniat Audrey settled for the third rank with 632.6. On the other hand, China's Huang Yuting picked up the fourth rank with 632.6. Kazakhstan's Le Alexandra (631.4), USA's Maddalena Sagen (631.4), and Muller Ocaenna from France (631.3) occupied the sixth, seventh, and eighth ranks, respectively, to make the cut for the final.
The Women's 10m air rifle final is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 29, at 1:00 PM IST.
