Paris Olympics 2024 Rowing: Balraj Panwar finishes 5th in QF; out of contention for a medal
India's sole representative in rowing at the Paris Olympics 2024, Balraj Panwar gave his all in the men’s single sculls event. Despite his best efforts, he finished fifth in his quarterfinal race with a time of 7:05.10, which unfortunately was not sufficient for him to advance to the medal contention rounds. His journey now continues in the C/D semifinals, where he will compete for a final ranking between 13th and 24th place.
The race commenced with high stakes, as Balraj Panwar needed to finish in the top three to secure a spot in the semifinals. However, a relatively slow start saw him positioned sixth at the 500m mark, with a time of 1:42.28.
By the halfway point at 1000m, Balraj Panwar clocked in at 3:29.24, holding his fifth position. The gap widened slightly, with the top three rowers pulling ahead.
At the 1500m mark, Panwar’s time of 5:17.22 was still at the fifth place. Despite his valiant efforts, the top three rowers had solidified their positions, making it increasingly challenging for him to close the gap.
Ultimately, Panwar crossed the finish line with a time of 7:05.10, placing him fifth in the race. While the quest for an Olympic medal may have ended in this event, his journey is far from over.
Balraj Panwar will now compete in the C/D semifinals, aiming to secure the highest possible ranking between 13th and 24th place and bow out of the competition with his head held high.
