Paris Olympics 2024: Satwik-Chirag to face Malaysian pair Chia-Soh in men's doubles quarter-finals
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have made it to the quarter-finals of the badminton men's doubles event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The draw for the knockout stages was scheduled to take place today and the results of the same are out.
The Sat-Chi duo will be facing Malaysian pair of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. The pair lost out to China in their last group stage game yesterday but made it to the quarter-finals of the quadrennial showpiece event. Their clash with the Indian dup of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty is slated on August 1, 2024 at 4:30 PM IST.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are being considered as medal hopefuls and are currently in sublime form. They have earned dominating wins in both their group stage fixtures. In the first clash, they took on host France's Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar and ousted them 21-17, 21-14. Their following clash against German duo Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel was cancelled after the pair's withdrawal from the event.
In their third tie, they faced a long-time hurdle in the form of Indonesia's Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian, whom they outwitted 21-13, 21-13 in the clash.

Speaking of the other quarter-finals, Chinese pair Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang will face Indonesia's Ardianto and Alfian. Whoever wins this clash, will take on Sat-Chi in the semi-finals if the Indian pair succeed in making it to the last four.
On the other hand, Denmark's Kim Astrup and Anders Skarup Rasmussen will be up against South Korea's Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae. The other respective quarter-final will be played between Thailand's Supak Jomkoh and Kittinupong Kedren and Chinese Taipei's Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty debuted at the Tokyo Olympics, where they had to bid adieu from the group stages itself. This time out, they have already become the first Indian pair to reach the last-eight of the men's doubles event and will be hungry to add an Olympic medal to their crown.
