Paris Olympics 2024 Shooting: Swapnil Kusale qualifies for the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final; Aishwary Pratap misses out by just 2 points
A mixed set of emotions for the Indian fans at the Paris Olympics 2024 as shooter Swapnil Kusale successfully qualified for the final of the Men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. However, his compatriot Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar narrowly missed the cut by just two points.
Swapnil Kusale was consistent throughout, earning a total score of 590-38x, which secured him the seventh position in the qualification round. His performance across the three positions was solid: he scored 198 in kneeling, 197 in prone, and 195 in standing. The impressive returns ensured Swapnil Kusale's place in the final, bringing hope for a potential medal for India.
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, despite his commendable effort, finished just outside the qualification spots. Tomar scored 589-33x, placing him in the 11th position, just two points shy of making it to the final. His scores in the kneeling (197), prone (199), and standing (193) positions were strong but not enough to advance to the next round. This narrow miss was a disappointment for Tomar, who had high hopes of advancing further in the competition.
China's Liu Yukun led the pack with a total score of 594-38x to break the Olympic Qualification Record. Norway's Jon-Hermann Hegg and Ukraine's Serhiy Kulish followed closely, scoring 593-36x and 592-39x, respectively. Other top qualifiers joining Swapnil Kusale included France's Lucas Bernard Denis Kryzs and Serbia's Lazar Kovacevic, both scoring 592 but with 35x and 33x, respectively.
