Paris Olympics 2024 Shooting: Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala fail to qualify for 25m rapid fire pistol final

Indian shooters Vijayveer Sidhu and Anish Bhanwala failed to qualify for the final of the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event in the Paris Olympics 2024 after finishing in the ninth and 13th positions, respectively, in the qualification round.

22-year-old Vijayveer Sidhu, who won a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games in the same event, finished in the ninth spot after scoring 583 points. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anish Bhanwala totaled 582 points to finish in 13th place. Both of the rifle shooters will not progress through to the final stage of the 25m rapid-fire pistol event as only the top six qualifiers make the last round.

The final result of the qualifier would be a disappointment for Vijayveer and Anish, as the duo were in the fifth and seventh positions, respectively, at the end of Stage 1. However, several shooters, such as Ukraine’s Maksym Horodynets, Estonia’s Peeter Olesk, and Italy’s Riccardo Mazzetti, vastly improved upon their initial scores in Stage 2, pushing the Indian duo down in the rankings.

At the end of the qualification round on Sunday, the Chinese pair of Li Yuehong and Wang Xinjie, Ukraine’s Pavlo Korostylov, South Korea’s Cho Yeongjae, Italy’s Massimo Spinella, and Germany’s Florian Peter made the men's 25m rapid fire pistol final.
