Paris Olympics 2024 Shot Put: Tajinderpal Singh Toor fails to qualify for finals
Tajinderpal Singh Toor, who is the lone shot put representative for India at the Paris Olympics 2024, failed to qualify for the men’s shot put finals after finishing in 15th place in Group A of the qualification round.
29-year-old Tajinderpal Singh Toor failed to make the cut for the finals after he only managed a best throw of 18.05 meters, which came in the first round. He then failed to increase his best score, as he scored foul throws in both the second and third rounds. As a result, he finished at the bottom of Group A, just above Brazil’s Welington Morais, who failed to open his account on the day.
In the combined results, Toor finished in the 29th position among the 31 competing athletes. He will be immensely disappointed with his performance on the day, as it fell way short of his career-best throw of 21.77m, which is also the Asian record in the shot put.
Tajinderpal Singh Toor was one of the players who were expected to challenge for a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, as the athlete from Punjab is a two-time gold medalist in the Asian Games, including in the last edition in Hangzhou. He has also won two Asian Championships to date.
Despite his credentials, Tajinderpal Singh Toor has failed to live up to expectations in the ongoing Olympic Games and saw his Paris journey cut short prematurely.
