Paris Olympics 2024: Updated Indian shooting squad after ISSF approves quota swap

India will now field a 21-member shooting team at the Paris Olympics 2024. Trap shooter Shreyasi Singh made the final Indian shooting squad on Friday, June 21, after approval from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) had earlier announced a strong 15-member rifle and pistol contingent. They also announced a five-member shotgun squad on Tuesday this week.

Looking at the squad, Youth Olympic gold medalist Manu Bhaker is set to compete in the women's 10m air pistol and the women's 25m pistol. Therefore, she is the only athlete who will participate in more than one individual event, while also featuring in the pistol mixed team event.

Paris Olympics 2024 will be her second Olympics after Tokyo 2020. From the Olympic shooting qualifying events, India obtained the maximum possible 16 quotas - eight each in the rifle and pistol.

Rifle shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Anjum Moudgil, and Elavenil Valarivan also return for their second Olympic Games. The remaining 11 rifle and pistol shooters are set for their Olympic debuts.

The Indian team also features Sift Kaur Samra, who won an individual gold medal at the Asian Games last year in the 50m rifle 3 positions with a world record in the final. 19-year-old shooter Esha Singh, along with Rhythm Sangwan and Manu, make up the women pistol team for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Asian Games champions Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema are also in the 10m air pistol Indian team. The ISSF also announced the shotgun team as India gained five quotas in shotgun events for the Paris Olympics 2024 during the qualifying period.

Anant Jeet Singh Nakura will be a part of the men's skeet while Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon will represent India's women's skeet.

Prithviraj Tondaiman is the lone representative in men's trap. With Manu set to compete in two events, India won 21 quotas and Shreyasi Singh has been added to the women's trap alongside Rajeshwari Kumari after ISSF accepted NRAI's request for a quota swap.

Additionally, India will also field five mixed teams - two each in rifle and pistol and one in shotgun at the Paris Olympics 2024. This is set to be the country's biggest-ever shooting contingent at the Olympics, surpassing the 15 from Tokyo 2020.
