Paris Olympics 2024: Virat Kohli urges the nation to support our ‘brothers and sisters’ competing at the Games

Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has made a special request to the nation and fans to rally behind the Indian athletes set to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024. Kohli recently played a match-winning knock in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa to help India win an ICC trophy after 11 years.

He has now urged everyone to shift their focus on the Paris Olympics 2024, starting July 26 and support the Indians, who’ll be aiming to clinch medals at the world’s biggest stage.

Kohli posted a heartfelt video on his X (formerly Twitter) account and highlighted India’s growth as a nation over the years.

“There was a time when the world could only think of India as a land of snake charmers and elephants. Over time, that has changed. Today, we are known to the world as the largest democracy, a global tech hub,” said Virat Kohli in the video.

He further added that India has developed across multiple sectors, and now it’s time to show India’s power in sports to the world.

“We are known for cricket and Bollywood, for start-up unicorns, and as the fastest-growing economy in the world. So, what is the next big thing for this great nation? Well, that will be more gold, more silver, and more bronze,” he added.

Indian javelin thrower and gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Neeraj Chopra, replied and thanked Virat Kohli for the support.

“Join me in remembering their faces” - Virat Kohli asks fans to cheer and rally behind the Indian athletes

Virat Kohli, who has been a superstar of cricket, surely knows a thing or two about handling pressure and the hopes of billions of Indian fans.

“Our brothers and sisters are headed to Paris, hungry for medals. A billion of us will be watching them, nervous and excited, as our athletes set foot in the tracks and fields and courts and rings,” added Kohli.

The Indian cricketer then asked the fans to come with him and cheer for the athletes, and wished them good luck for the Paris Olympics 2024.

“Every neighborhood, every corner of India will hear a chorus of voices chanting ‘India, India, India.’ Join me in remembering their faces as they inch closer to the podium with the dogged determination of waving the Tiranga with pride. Jai Hind and good luck, India,” Kohli concluded.
