Paris Olympics 2024: When will Manu Bhaker play the women's 10m air pistol final?
As of July 27, 2024, Manu Bhaker remains the only bright spot for the Indian shooting contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024. Earlier in the day, the two shooting teams in the 10m air rilfe mixed team failed to gain qualification.
The first team which consisted of Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta ended sixth, while the second team of Sandeep Singh and Elavenil Valarivan ended 12th. A top-four finish was needed to qualify for the medal matches and both sets failed to achieve the same.
However, later in the day, Manu Bhaker stole the limelight of criticism and showered a ray of hope, as she ended her qualification stage of the women's 10m air pistol on the third position. She scored a total of 580 points and impressed with 27 inner 10s, the most by any shooter in the qualification stage.
Manu Bhaker's final in the 10m air pistol event (women's) is scheduled for 3:30 PM IST on July 28, 2024. This is her first time at the showpiece event's final and a great opportunity to create history.
The last time India won a gold medal in shooting was back in Beijing 2008 where Abhinav Bindra created history by winning India's first gold in shooting (he represented India in the 10m air rifle event).
Manu Bhaker close to create history
Notably, Manu Bhaker has also set her name up in the history books. She has ended a two-decade or a twenty-year drought. The 2004 Athens Games was were Suma Shirur reached the final of the 10m air rifle event. She was the last female Indian shooter to go past the qualification stages. Manu Bhaker has now added her to the list and put an end to India's long wait.
Moreover, this will also be Manu Bhaker's first ever Olympic final. She didn't have a memorable outing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and will be hoping to erase that memory come the final.
